How to not be a spammer

Ask Question

The community here tends to vote down overt self-promotion and flag it as spam. Post good, relevant answers, and if some (but not all) happen to be about your product or website, that’s okay. However, if you mention your product, website, or anything else in your contribution, you must disclose your affiliation in the post.

Behaviors to Avoid

Even with the best of intentions, these behaviors will almost always result in your posts being flagged as spam:

  • Don't talk about your product or website too much. If you only respond to questions where your answer can promote something you're selling, people will assume you're here just to sell.

  • Don't tell – show! Demonstrate your solution instead of simply saying it can be solved. This keeps your answers credible and informative.

  • Don't include unnecessary links. Links should only support what you've written and not substitute for providing actual information in your answer. Make sure any link you include is directly relevant.

Tips for Writing Well-Received Answers

  • Always solve the asker's problem. Your answer should at least help the person whose question you’re answering. Aim to provide a complete solution whenever possible.

  • Answer for the future. Write answers that will help others facing similar problems, even if their situations are not exactly the same. Explain why your solution works and how it applies.

  • Avoid poorly-written questions. Posting a well-written answer to a poorly-written question may hurt your credibility. Make sure the question is on-topic before answering.
