Problem
I am trying to figure out the fix for this Kitchenaid KOE530PPS microwave. The microwave works, but the door has to be pushed shut.
What I've Tried
- Replaced Hinges: I replaced the hinges on this unit, this is usually a common fix for ovens.
Expected Behavior
Microwave door should close all the way on its own.
Actual Behavior
The door is not closing all the way, nothing is blocking it. It has the ability to close all the way because it can be manually shut.
Additional Information
- Logs or Error Messages: No error messages or fault codes displayed
Question
What would cause this issue other than the hinges?
Type: Microwave
Brand: Kitchenaid
Model: KOEC530PPS

Explanation
Whirlpool has a service bulletin out about this issue. The inner door must be replaced. P/N (W11639555)
Steps to Resolve
-
Remove the door: To replace the inner door, the door will have to be removed.
- There will be a couple screws on each side of the door, remove those.
- Be prepared with a drill bit and rivet gun. The sway arm has a rivet, drill that out.
- Lift the door off the hinges.
- Split the door by removing a couple hidden screws behind the plastic caps.
- Reinstall Door: Be sure to rivet the sway arm back in properly. Reverse previous steps to install the door.
- Test the microwave: The door should now properly compress the door switches.
Additional Tips
- Be prepared with drill bits and rivets
