Problem

I'm experiencing an issue with my Frigidaire FFFU13F2VW freezer. Immediately, once the freezer is plugged in, it pops the breaker.

What I've Tried

  1. Inspected wires: Inspected all wires and ensured no wires were arcing or grounded.
  2. Tested a different outlet: Tried a different outlet on a different circuit. New breaker still trips.

Expected Behavior

Freezer compressor, fans, and lights should turn on when plugged in.

Actual Behavior

Upon plugging in the freezer, the breaker is tripped.

Additional Information

  • Logs or Error Messages: No error messages or fault codes displayed

Question

What could cause the breaker to trip when the unit is plugged in?

Type: Freezer

Brand: Frigidaire

Model: FFFU13F2VW

Explanation

This issue is most likely happening due to a bad compressor.

This can be tested by measuring continuity between each pin to ground.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Access compressor: Remove the back panel. Some freezers already have the compressor exposed.
  2. Unplug the compressor: Unplug the compressor to expose the pins.
  3. Test the compressor: Run a continuity check between each pin to ground.
    • If there is continuity, this confirms a bad grounded compressor.
  4. Replace the compressor: The compressor must be replaced or rebuilt to solve the issue.
  5. Test the freezer: Upon plugging in the freezer, the breaker should no longer trip.

TLDR

See if the compressor is grounded. This will cause a breaker to trip.
