Problem

I have an issue with the ice maker in my LG Refrigerator. For some reason it is just not making ice.

What I've Tried

  1. Force Cycled Ice Maker: I googled how to force cycle the icemaker. When I hold down the button on the ice maker, it cycles just fine. It even dumps ice!
  2. Replaced Ice Maker: Looked up how to replace the ice maker, I'm pretty sure I did it correctly. Same thing though. It force cycles, but doesn't cycle on its own.

Expected Behavior

Ice maker should run on its own.

Actual Behavior

Ice maker will only run when I manually force cycle it.

Question

After replacing the ice maker, what else would cause it not to run?

Type: Refrigerator

Brand: LG

Model: LRYXC2606S

Explanation

The issue is most likely NOT your ice maker at all. 28 degrees in the freezer is way to warm. It should be 0. The ice maker will not run unless the ice maker compartment is under 15 degrees.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Make sure your fans are working: Check your evaporator and condenser fans.
  2. Check the evaporator frost pattern: Ensure your evaporator has a good frost pattern. Thin layer of ice evenly on the entire evaporator.
  3. Ensure no ice build-up: Make sure there isn't any massive ice build-up on the evaporator.
  4. Check the compressor: Make sure the compressor is running.

Additional Tips

  • Start finding the reason why the freezer is not cold enough. It is probably going to keep getting warmer. The ice maker is a nice warning sign before all of your goods go bad.

TLDR

It's not the ice maker. Your freezer is not cold enough. It is a cooling issue.
