Problem

Just got done installing the heating element in my Whirlpool Dryer WED7500GC0, I didn't pay attention to which way the wires go back onto the element. Does it matter?

Description

  • This dryer uses a 2 wire heating element.
  • The two wires are red and black, both spades and connectors are all the same size.
  • The red wire comes off of the thermal cut-off.
  • The black wire comes off the high limit thermostat.

Type: Dryer

Brand: Whirlpool

Model: WED7500GC0

Explanation

The short answer is no, it does not matter which way the wires go on this dryer's heating element. The only thing you should worry about is making sure there is no tension on the wires.

Proper wire installation

I pulled up the service manual and included some pictures. According to the manual, the wire coming from the high limit thermostat aka the black wire plugs into the top terminal.

The red wire coming from the Thermal cut-off plugs into the bottom terminal.

This is merely to reconnect everything back in a way the manufacturer had it.

TLDR

no, it does not matter which way this element is reconnected.
