Problem
I'm dealing with an Amana Washer NTW4518FW. It has a slow spin, I'm leaning towards replacing the actuator, but why?
What I've Tried
- Checked washer error codes: I placed the washer into diagnostic mode, it had a shifter fault and a speed sensor fault.
- Tested spin in test mode: Placed washer into test mode and tested agitate and spin. The spin is slow.
Expected Behavior
Full speed spin.
Actual Behavior
Washer has a slow spin.
Additional Information
- Logs or Error Messages: F7E5 and F7E1
Question
I'm assuming the actuator is at fault, but why? What about the speed sensor? Where is the speed sensor even located?
Type: Washer
Brand: Amana
Model: NTW4516FW

Explanation
The actuator is indeed at fault.
What does the actuator do?
- Senses Speed: There is a speed sensor built into the actuator.
- Shifts washer between spin and agitate: The arm coming out of the actuator shifts the splutch to either agitate or spin.
Additional Tips
- I always suggest replacing the splutch with the actuator. A stiff splutch wears out the actuator prematurely.
TLDR
The actuator causes many spin related issues. It senses spin speed and shifts the washer between agitate and spin.
