Problem

This GE refrigerator's compressor is not running. All fans and lights are running. Only the compressor is not running. I want to see if there are other causes before writing off the compressor.

What I've Tried

  1. Ran ohm check on compressor: Ran an ohm check, the ohms are within spec.
  2. Replaced starting gear: Replaced the start relay and capacitor. Problem still persists.

Expected Behavior

Compressor should run when the fans are running.

Actual Behavior

Everything runs properly except for the compressor.

Additional Information

  • Logs or Error Messages: No error messages or fault codes displayed

Question

After replacing the starting gear, is there anything else I should check before writing off the compressor?

Type: Refrigerator

Explanation

The most common solution to the issue you are describing is a bad control board.

Steps to Resolve

  1. Access the control board: Remove the control board cover located on the back of the refrigerator.
  2. Locate the compressor plug: The plug for these boards are usually spade connectors located on a corner of the board. Usually labelled as compressor and L1.
  3. Jump the compressor: Jump the compressor and L1 spades with a jumper. The compressor should turn on.
  4. Replace the main control: Take some pictures of the wires and replace the main control.
  5. Test the refrigerator: Once the board is replaced, plug in the fridge. The compressor should start.

TLDR

Jump the compressor at the control board. If the compressor turns on, replace the board.
