Who are the site moderators, and what is their role here?

At Appliance Surge, we believe moderation starts with the community. Users gain moderation priveleges based on their score!

What are moderators expected to do?

Moderators on Appliance Surge are expected to:

  • Be patient and fair.

  • Lead by example and show respect for fellow community members.

  • Maintain light but firm moderation to keep the community on track.

Moderators must also abide by our moderator agreement. Their main role is to handle exceptional situations that could otherwise disrupt the community.

Common Moderator Tasks

The most frequent moderator task is addressing flagged posts. Users can flag posts for reasons like spam, or offensive content. Moderators can then vote to have the flag removed, or have the post removed.

If you see something unusual or disruptive, flag it! Moderators are here to resolve such issues and keep the community focused and productive.

Special Moderator Abilities

  • Flag votes: Moderators vote on removing false flags, or removing posts with an approprate flag.

  • Bonus rewards: Moderators earn points for each vote on flagged posts to ensure the platform provides high quality content.

The Ideal Moderator

The best moderators do as little as possible, but their actions, though few, are impactful. Most of the work involves deleting spam, closing off-topic questions, and improving the worst-rated posts. They serve as liaisons between the community and the site, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

If you have questions about a moderator's actions, you can always bring them up for discussion in a constructive and respectful manner. Moderators are acting in the best interests of the community, but they may sometimes make mistakes or handle controversial topics.

Distinguishing Moderators

Users with a score above 1000 will be considered a site moderator. Appliance Surge employees may have a diamond (♦) next to their names to signify they are staff.
